Fish Finders
Ranging from simple fish finder only units, to those which also feature a basic GPS functionality. Those with basic GPS plotters feature a blank white basemap that allows you to plot your favourite marks. These units offer no option to add upgraded basemaps such as navionics, however the Striker Vivid series from Garmin offers QuickDraw Contours that maps out the seabed contours on a blank basemap as you travel over the ground. Fish Finders with Full GPS Chartplotters
These models feature a fish finder mode and a full GPS chartplotter. Full Chartplotters feature a basic pre-loaded basemap showing a coastline map but without any detailed seabed data. These units feature a microSD card slot that allows you to purchase and add upgraded high definition seabed maps, such as those from Navionics. This level of seabed data can transform your fishing and many regular kayak anglers opt for a fish finder with a full GPS chartplotter.

Fish Finders with Side Scanning Sonar
Side Scan sonar shoots out either side of your craft allowing you to find structure around you as you navigate the water. Great for quickly searching an area to find those fish holding spots. Very effective in shallow waters in lakes, estuaries and shallow coastal locations. Side Scan Transducers are usually larger than standard transducers and must be installed below the keel line of your craft so that the sonar can shoot out either side.
